An average of thirty vehicles per hour will attend the new vehicular technical review center of the Esmeraldas Public Company for Land Transport and Road Safety, (EP Esvial), inaugurated on Monday this week.

With a private investment of $1 million, the infrastructure and equipment were built by a Colombian company, domiciled in Ecuador. The Municipality of Esmeraldas will concession this service for 15 years and will receive a 15% profit.

Borys Reyes, from the vehicle inspection department, explained that they have three lines for mechanical technical checks at six inspection points.

The vehicle technical review in Quito will begin in July with digits 1 and 2

At the discretion of Clemente Ramírez, manager of the Simón Plata Torres taxi operator, the vehicle should be checked annually and not every certain time if they report any inconvenience in the controls of the municipal traffic agents.

Héctor Sánchez, another transporter, said that it was time to have this review center, since on many occasions they took the vehicles to Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas or Imbabura.

The drivers also urged the authorities of the Municipality of Esmeraldas to repair the streets where it is impossible to enter with cars or motorcycles due to potholes or deterioration of the asphalt.

“Reasons for our vehicles to destroy bodies, brakes, suspension, shock absorbers,” said Eugenia Hidalgo, who transports parcels.

It is estimated that some 20 thousand vehicles have the fleet of the city of Esmeraldas, some circulate with gas emissions and bodies in fair condition. (I)
