The Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, assured that the two bodies that appeared hanging on a pedestrian bridge in Durán, early this Monday the 14th, seek to frighten everyone, but that this will not stop the national authorities, which, on the contrary, , they will respond with more interventions, greater police presence and new strategies.
Vela referred in this way to being approached by journalists in the National Assembly, in Quito, this Monday the 14th.
There he announced that they had just extradited people linked to international drug cartels. And that actions like the Durán bridge seek to generate fear.
“This is a war against drug trafficking, it is a war against transnational organized crime,” Vela said, adding that the two hanged on the Durán bridge had criminal records.
One of those hanged on the Durán bridge had been reported missing on February 11 in Guayaquil
One of the hanged men was reported missing (since February 11) and the other man had “obvious links with organized internal crime groups in the country,” according to the Government Minister.
The official added that this event in Durán would not be related to the last drug seizure in the port of Guayaquil, 7 tons, which was the largest historical seizure that they have had within a port.
“(In) this case (the two hanged in Durán) of the information we have is that two antagonistic groups could be involved that do not correspond to the cartels that handle this type of drug,” he mentioned.
Likewise, he announced that they will increase the police presence in Guayaquil and in Zone 8 (which includes Durán and Samborondón), that they will carry out a new type of intervention that has not been done so far, although he did not specify how it would be.

“We will not stop fighting crime, regardless of the reaction that occurs in these groups,” he said.
According to her, the work that the Police has carried out at the moment has served to contain violent deaths in recent weeks, if there were not more.
These police operations would have produced results. Among these, the seizure of the 8 tons in the port; the arrest of the man who murdered the Dutch tourist, for robbing him, on the Santa Ana hill; the dismantling of a gang of assassins, among others.
Vela said that the Vice Minister of Security, who went to Quito, has already traveled to Guayaquil (where he now works) and that generals from the General Intelligence Directorate of the Police will also travel to this city. (I)
