The cost of tickets on urban and intra-cantonal buses in Ibarra from this Tuesday, February 15, 2022, will have an increase of $0.05.
A court ruling of second instance in this province endorses the new value that is rejected by users, who demand better attention and service.
The court decision refers to compensation in the rate for intra-cantonal and urban transport in the capital of Imbabura, which rises to $0.35 for regular passengers and $0.17 for the preferential rate, as stated in a statement issued by the Public Mobility Company of the North (Movildenor).
The Court of Second Instance of the Criminal Chamber of the Imbabura Provincial Court of Justice resolved, in a ruling dated February 9, 2022, to revoke the precautionary measures ordered by the Imbabura Court of Criminal Guarantees, in October 2021, that He asked to cancel the claim of public transport in the Ibarra canton.
In a statement, Movildenor also indicated that, according to the file, the increase of $0.05 to the urban fare is a decision with technical and socially just support on compensation for the increase in fuel prices.
In institutional information, it was added that Movildenor EP and the cooperatives protect the interests of the users of the service, and pointed out that with this sentence the request for the precautionary measures requested by Andrea Scacco, mayor of Ibarra, are without effect.
Movildenor described the precautionary measures as unfounded and inadmissible, because -according to the entity- there is no violation of legal security or due process.
The court ruling is immediately enforceable, and favors the bus operators of the Ibarra canton.
Luis Fernando Ruiz, general manager of Movidelnor, confirmed that the commitment of the Public Company will be to monitor the continuous improvement of the canton’s public transport service.
However, the complaints of those who use the four operators agree that the service is not the best, the vehicles do not provide the corresponding asepsis, the buses come from the fleet that no longer operates in Quito and the service is poor, they denounce.
Marcelo Yépez, president of the 28 de Septiembre cooperative, indicated that with this upward compensation for fuels they will improve and adapt their units in order to provide comfort, efficiency and excellence for users.
The criticisms against the increase in social networks have been constant. Several citizens complained that the routes are not followed, the units do not circulate after 7:00 p.m., the service does not reach important sectors and they suggest that families of three and four members use taxis because it is economical, they shorten the times and the distances.
Óscar Caicedo, councilor of Ibarra, said that the council is against this arbitrary charge, because the precarious economy of the population is not being considered, and he ruled out filing a new appeal.
Currently, the divergent positions between the manager of Movildenor and the Municipal Council of Ibarra are maintained; the first supporting the increase and the second opposing said increase.
