Scientists from University College London (UCL) have discovered a new planet next to a white dwarf that could theoretically support life. It is located in the “habitable zone”, that is, water can exist on it.

According to a study published in the Bulletin of the British Royal Astronomical Society, the planet is next to a “white dwarf”, that is, a fading star. If the conclusions of scientists are confirmed, this will be the first celestial body in history with habitable conditions, which is located in the orbit of a star of this type.

The planet in the habitable zone is located at a distance of 117 light years from Earth. It is assumed that it is 60 times closer to its star compared to the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

The habitable zone is a region in space near a star where the distance from the star is not too far away to be extremely cold, and not too close to be extremely hot. If the conditions on the planet meet these requirements, there may be water in liquid form, and hence life.
