Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko believes that the escalation of tensions near the country’s borders is connected with Moscow’s desire to force Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements. As RIA Novosti reports, Tymoshenko announced this on the air of the Ukraine TV channel.

Citing the opinion of “dozens of military experts”, she said that a full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine is unlikely today. According to unnamed experts, with whom Tymoshenko agrees, Moscow’s main goal is to force Ukraine to immediately comply with the Minsk agreements, which, according to the politician, are unacceptable for Ukraine.

The experts with whom Tymoshenko spoke pointed out to her the insufficient number of military and equipment of the Russian Federation near the borders of Ukraine, the increased combat capability of the Ukrainian army, the mobilization of the international community and the absence in the history of cases when people talk about this for several months before the offensive.

Earlier, US presidential aide Jake Sullivan said that Russia could take aggressive steps against Ukraine any day. Most likely, the invasion will begin with an air attack, Sullivan said. CNN, citing its sources, reported that the US and its allies have received new intelligence, according to which Russia may launch an attack on Ukraine even before the end of the Beijing Olympics. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said there was a risk of overthrowing the government in Kiev.

Russia still claims that it is not preparing for hostilities against Ukraine. Moscow says such accusations are being used to justify Ukraine’s military buildup, as well as the concentration of NATO forces in Eastern Europe.

The United States will move 3,000 more of its military to Poland in the coming days, in addition to the 1,700 already sent. According to Reuters, this decision is related to the situation around Ukraine.

According to the agency, soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg will arrive in Poland. Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak specified that they would be deployed near the border with Ukraine.
