There will be no “hot war” over Ukraine – countries are accustomed to comfort and will not want to lose it because of hostilities. This opinion was expressed by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
“I am simply convinced that there will be no hot war,” Lukashenka said. He explained this by saying that “we are too accustomed to comfort.” However, he specified, there could be provocations.
“If some crazy Nazis in Ukraine don’t stage a provocation, we won’t fight,” Lukashenka added.
Lukashenka also drew attention to the fact that potential opponents are “probing” Belarus.
“They are feeling us: either a helicopter will fly in, or a plane, or a drone,” he said.
Lukashenka believes that a “hybrid war” is underway.
Earlier, Lukashenka stated that if the Ukrainian authorities “start a war against Donbass”, the Belarusian army will act in the same way as the Russian one. He also threatened that, together with Russia, Belarus would turn off electricity to Ukraine and stop the supply of fuels and lubricants.
To this statement, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky replied that ordinary people would suffer from such actions, and reproached Lukashenka for “desire to return to the Stone Age.”
Since 2021, statements have been made in Western countries, as well as in Ukraine, about a possible “invasion” of Russia into Ukrainian territory. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is moving troops within its territory and at its own discretion. According to him, it does not threaten anyone. Nevertheless, Russia is promised sanctions. In the afternoon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the department would advise non-essential personnel of its diplomatic missions in Ukraine to leave the country.
We add that at the moment there are exercises of Russia and Belarus. Russian crews of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) took up combat duty at a training ground in the Brest region. During the second stage of the verification, from February 10 to February 20, a joint exercise “Allied Resolve-2022” will be held, within the framework of which the issues of suppressing and repelling external aggression, as well as countering terrorism and protecting the interests of the Union State will be worked out. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the US authorities perceive the military exercises of Russia and Belarus as actions that contribute to the escalation of the conflict over Ukraine.
