Manta, MANABI
Hundreds of empty bottles and a large number of forged Customs stamps were found between the afternoon and evening of this Thursday 10th in various homes that were raided by authorities from the State Attorney General’s Office, the National Police and the National Customs Service of the Ecuador (Sena).
Until 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, three homes had been raided in the Villamarina and Jocay sectors of the city of Manta. Until that moment, three people had been detained and a platform was even required to be able to move the evidence of hundreds of empty bottles.
Alexandra Bravo, Manta’s prosecutor on duty, pointed out that several crimes are being investigated, from adulterated liquor to counterfeiting brands and stamps. It is believed that the action they did in these places was to fill bottles of brands, whose price is high, with liquid from lower cost bottles.
“We are analyzing the possibility that they are repackaging centers, that is, lower-cost brands are repackaged to brands that have a higher price on the market,” Bravo said.
For this reason, the judicial official indicated, it is being investigated where the boxes and stamps are obtained, because the crime of falsification of stamps that were located once they repackaged bottles with liquid of a lower-cost liquor in the market must be visualized.
Bolívar Brito, from the Senae customs surveillance body, indicated that the number of bottles seized in this operation is indecipherable.
The operations continued and the authorities do not rule out that there could be more involved in this case that is being investigated in the city of Manta. (I)
