At the Ukrainian station “Akademik Vernadsky” meteorologists set a new temperature record. The National Antarctic Science Center announced this on Facebook.

The record was recorded at the Ukrainian station “Akademik Vernadsky” – the air temperature here rose to plus 12.7 degrees Celsius. The previous record was set in 1985, when the air at the station warmed up to 11.7 above zero.

Meteorologists reported that anomalous indicators were also recorded at other Antarctic stations – on King George Island, located north of the Akademik Vernadsky. The post notes that such records cannot but be alarming, as they signal climate change.

Previously, the temperature record was recorded in the Arctic. In the city of Verkhoyansk in Yakutia on June 20, 2020, the air temperature rose to 38 degrees above zero. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has made a record of this in the archive of data on extreme weather and climate events.

As noted on the organization’s website, 2020 and 2021 were abnormally hot not only in the Arctic. The highest temperatures in the history of observations were recorded in Antarctica – 18.3 degrees above zero, and also, possibly, in Europe and the world as a whole.
