Asbanc: digital wallets exceeded one million transactions during 2021

According to the latest report on Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion in municipalities prepared by the Association of Banks of Peru (Asbanc), more than 1,100,000 thousand transactions were carried out in markets through digital wallets until the end of the last year at the national level. The amount of these transfers exceeded S/ 60 million.

Asbanc He also highlighted that only in Lima the amount of transactions reached almost S/ 38 million, while in the provinces it was approximately S/ 22 million.

They seek to promote financial inclusion

Through the “Pay Securely, easily and without contact” campaign, the Association of Banks of Peru seeks to promote digitization and financial inclusion programs for the use of the main digital wallets found in the market: Yape, Tunki Plin Y bimm.

Although this project was born with the aim of reducing the use of cash for the prevention of COVID-19currently also contributes to the local economy, thanks to the increase in digital payments in the different markets in districts and provinces of Peru.

Regarding the progress of this campaign, Asbanc highlighted that in metropolitan Lima the districts with the highest penetration of digital wallets in commercial posts were: San Miguel with 57% affiliation, Jesús María (53%), Barranco (37%), San Borja (36%), La Molina (26 %) and Santa Anita (21%).

With respect to other regions of the country, Piura registered the highest affiliation ratio during the year (19%) with more than 2,800 positions, followed by Callao (15%) with 3,400, Arequipa (11%) with 1,500, Trujillo (10% ) with 1,900 and Cajamarca (7%) with 1,300 affiliated establishments.

According to Asbanc, grocery stores, cell phone accessories, bank agents, butchers, grocery stores, bookstores, cleaning product stores, and even fruit, chicken or vegetable stalls are the businesses that have joined the use the most. of digital or electronic wallets.

It should be remembered that digital wallets allow various financial operations to be carried out from mobile devices such as cell phones quickly, easily and safely. Likewise, they avoid contact with cash and optimize our time to carry out transactions.

Another benefit is related to public services: some wallets also allow you to pay taxes and entity fees, making it increasingly easier to carry out procedures. These advances allow the digitalization of both the public and private sectors of the country at the same time and it is expected that it will reach more establishments by the end of the year.
