More than 75% of Russian teachers have a salary that does not “reach” the minimum wage (minimum wage), which amounted to 12.8 thousand rubles in 2021. This follows from the data of the Ministry of Education presented at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, TASS reports.

In addition, the presentation notes that in different regions of the country, different approaches to the remuneration of teachers are used, which gives rise to the opacity of the calculation of allowances and the principles for accounting for various payments.

As follows from the data of Rosstat, which Vedomosti reminds of, the differentiation of nominal average wages for a number of professions in the public sector for the nine months of 2021 was at its maximum since 2013. This also applied to teachers, for whom the difference between the minimum and maximum average wages in the regions of Russia reached 5.3 (in 2013 this figure was “only” 4.6).

The teachers of the Russian Federation also name excessive reporting and low salaries among their most important problems.

Last fall, the Ministry of Education developed a draft resolution on the implementation of a pilot project on a new teacher remuneration system. The experiment, scheduled for 2021-2023, should take place in the Belgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Sakhalin, Yaroslavl regions and the Republic of Mordovia. But judging by reports from sources, it is also planned to be postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
