The awarding of figure skaters at the end of the team tournament at the Olympics is delayed due to problems that arose with a doping test of one of the Russian athletes, according to the portal Inside the Games.
The award ceremony was supposed to take place on Monday, then it was postponed until Tuesday, and then for an indefinite period, RIA Novosti reports.
According to an Inside the Games source, the Russian figure skater passed a dubious test before the Olympics, Lenta.ru notes.
At the same time, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and international anti-doping organizations are involved in resolving the situation.
Last Monday, Russian figure skaters won the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
We also add that on February 3, the day before the official opening of the Olympics, the head of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin, in an interview with TASS, expressed the hope that the performance of the Russians at the Olympics in Beijing would not be overshadowed by the negative doping cases.
And on February 6, after winning the skiathlon, Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov decided that it was not worth asking questions about doping to Russian athletes at the Olympics. “There are clean athletes here who are regularly tested. Asking such questions in our direction is wrong, ”the athlete told reporters.
