The Japanese government is ready to redirect part of the country’s purchased liquefied natural gas to Europe if the Ukrainian crisis causes interruptions in supplies from Russia, NHK broadcaster reports.
According to the channel, this decision was made after receiving a request from the United States. At the moment, the Japanese authorities have not yet decided on the volume and possible timing of deliveries. In addition, it is not known whether Japan will supply gas from its reserves or redirect to the EU part of the LNG intended for it under the contract. The broadcaster notes that the official decision may be announced on Wednesday.
Recall that earlier Bloomberg reported that the US administration, admitting the possibility of a reduction in Russian gas supplies to Europe in the event of an aggravation of the situation around Ukraine, turned to the largest gas buyers with a request to reduce purchases so that gas could be redirected to the EU countries.
