Do you need a passport urgently? The Civil Registry initiates the ‘Passport Express’ plan

The Civil Registry of Ecuador enables from this Tuesday, February 8, 2022, the Express Passport service, for now only for Quito and Guayaquil.

This option is aimed at meeting the demand of Ecuadorians who need to obtain the travel document immediately, due to personal issues and who did not schedule an appointment in a timely manner. The attention and payment will be made directly, without scheduling, the fee is $150, reported the Civil Registry.

The validity of the express passport is 10 years. Additionally, the cancellation of the service can be made in cash or with a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Diners Club and American Express credit card issued by Bancos del Pacífico, Pichincha and Guayaquil.

According to the agency, this service does not operate through the Virtual Agency and the collection is made at the payment window set up inside the Civil Registry office.

How to do it

• Approach the information module of the authorized agencies (Quito: matrix / Guayaquil: Zonal Government) to verify compliance with the requirements and indicate the willingness to access the express service.
• Pay the express service fee of $150 at the collection point provided within the agencies.
• Go with the proof of payment and requirements to the validation and enrollment module to capture the demographic and biometric information.
• After validating the information, the express passport is delivered to the user.

Requirements for express passport

• Proof of payment (collection point of the Civil Registry Agency).
• Identity card.
• Previous passport, in case of renewal.
• Lost documents form, in case of loss or theft.

Minors must be accompanied by their parents or legal representative; Otherwise, a notarized Special Power of Attorney is required, stating the authorization to leave the country of the father, mother or legal representative that includes the authorization to obtain the travel document.

The ordinary passport is priced at $90, either the first time or for renewal; Seniors or people with a disability equal to or greater than 30% will pay $45 for the travel document.
