The authorities did not conduct a broad propaganda campaign about the QR code system, which caused protest moods among Russians to intensify. Inna Vetrenko, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor of the NWRIU RANEPA, told a Rosbalt correspondent about this.

“Due to a new infectious, rapidly spreading strain, we are not insured either by vaccinations, for which QR codes were introduced, or by natural immunity after a previous infection with other variants of the virus. Naturally, the population began to protest against revaccination – this is relevant for those whose covid certificates have expired, because the previous active vaccination wave took place a year ago, ”Vetrenko noted.

According to her observations, citizens decided that there was no point in being vaccinated again, because people get sick anyway because of new strains. This fueled the protest mood, the political scientist is sure.

“The mistake of the media and the authorities is that there was no broad information and, I’m not even afraid of the word, a propaganda campaign. After all, those vaccinated and those who have been ill still have immunity and therefore endure “omicron” much more easily than other citizens. It needed to be explained clearly. The problem resulted in a massive discussion between people among themselves – without professional medical and even psychological information, ”Vetrenko summed up.
