Almost half (45%) of the participants in a survey organized by the Finnish publication Maaseudun Tulevaisuus would support Finland’s entry into NATO, provided that such a decision is approved by the country’s leadership. It is reported by Yle TV channel.

At the same time, every third participant in the survey says “no” (thus, the majority is for the supporters of joining the alliance), every fourth resident of a neutral country has not decided on his position.

A month ago, similar polls were conducted by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat and the news service of the MTV channel. During this period, the number of both supporters of joining NATO and citizens who have not decided on their position has increased.

So far, neither Finland nor Sweden have expressed a desire to join the North Atlantic Alliance and are not discussing this issue with NATO. Moreover, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that the majority of Suomi citizens are quite neutral about Suomi’s status. Nevertheless, this topic is becoming especially relevant in connection with both the aggravation of the geopolitical situation and the desire of Georgia and Ukraine to join NATO.
