The Russian authorities are trying to find a pretext for an “invasion” of Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office said.

“We have a high degree of confidence that Russia is planning to create a pretext to blame Ukraine for the attack and thus justify its invasion of this country,” Reuters quoted a source in the country’s Foreign Ministry as saying.

In turn, British Ambassador to Russia Deborah Bronnert called Moscow’s actions against Kiev “threatening.” She demanded that the Russian side “withdraw troops and relieve tensions”, and also recalled that the aggression against Ukraine would not be without “very serious consequences.”

At the same time, Bronnert stressed that London is committed to dialogue with the Kremlin, including on security issues, RTVI reports. In addition, the ambassador called Russia a “beautiful country” and expressed hope for joint cooperation in the fields of culture and education.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a statement that the United Kingdom, in the face of “Russian aggression”, stands “side by side” with Ukraine.
