The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg extended the term of detention by the head of the radiology department of the City Consultative and Diagnostic Center No. 1, Elena Medvedeva, by 72 hours. This is reported by the Telegram channel of the press service of the courts of the Northern capital.
The woman was charged under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Production, storage, transportation or sale of goods and products, performance of work or provision of services that do not meet safety requirements”). Medvedeva partially admitted her guilt.
Recall that in the period from December 2021 to January 2022, seven patients who underwent diagnostics at this center died. The investigation believes that for a long time the institution provided medical services to the population using an industrial chemical preparation that is not included in the state register of medicines and does not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers.
“A commercial structure has been established that supplied this industrial chemical, and the actions of its management will be given a legal assessment. Investigators seized various items and documents that are important for the investigation, and interrogations are also being carried out, ”the Investigative Committee said.
According to investigators, Yevgeny Popov, head physician of the center, approved the application for the purchase of the drug “Barium sulfate 0.10 (H2O)%”, not included in the state register – he was arrested. According to pathologist Jeanne Schmidt, people drank “virtually battery fluid.”
