The damage caused to highways and bridges by the overflow of rivers keeps several communities in Cotopaxi, in the north-central Sierra of Ecuador, incommunicado.

Each day, depending on the weather conditions, they have assisted with four trips to different sectors of Pucayacu, Malqui-Machay, Tingo La Esperanza and other communes that are located on the La Maná-Pujilí-Latacunga road, which had several sections collapsed by the river overflow.

Since last Sunday, in the face of the emergencies reported by the strong storm, they began with the evacuation of people in the Tingo La Esperanza sector, in Pujilí, Armas said.
His task has focused on the rescue of twelve people who were left isolated and the provision of food to those who are in those isolated communes. In food, he calculated, they have delivered 2,000 kilos that have come through donations from different public and private entities.
For now, other sites such as Choasilli and Sarahuasi still cannot be accessed due to the high presence of cloudiness. “We are waiting for conditions to improve to enter,” she said.
They try to reach isolated areas of Sigchos and Pucayacu with the help of food. One of the alternatives has even been the placement of ropes to cross the river.
The damages are considerable in the communities of that province with damage to homes, bridges, roads, crops, livestock, the electrical system network, among others.
Government authorities continue to collect information on the damage, which has not left any fatalities. In some areas, debris is being removed and cleaning actions are being used, for example in Pucayacu (La Maná).
Several municipalities such as Colta (Chimborazo) and Guayaquil and the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) have donated food kits to the areas affected by the overflow of the Pilaló, San Pablo and Quindigua rivers. (I)
