The head of the Moscow office of Deutsche Welle, Yuri Resheto, received an official letter from the Russian Foreign Ministry about the need to close the office by 9 am on Friday and return the accreditation of employees. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

According to the interlocutor of the agency, he does not yet know when he and his colleagues from Germany will need to leave Russia.

Earlier, Germany banned the broadcasting of the German-language TV channel RT DE due to the lack of a license. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the termination of satellite and other broadcasting of the channel, and also initiated the procedure for considering the issue of recognizing Deutsche Welle as a foreign agent.

State Minister of Germany for Culture and Media Claudia Roth said that the situation around RT DE and Deutsche Welle cannot be compared.

Roth said RT DE broadcasts without a license and has not applied for permission. She noticed that DW’s license was revoked.

The German Foreign Ministry noted that the situation would adversely affect relations between the two countries. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Russia on February 15. The ban on broadcasting in Russia by media company Deutsche Welle will overshadow Scholz’s visit to Moscow.
