The US Senate is working on preventive sanctions against Russia because of the situation around Ukraine. The Foreign Affairs Committee is already close to reaching an agreement between Democrats and Republicans on the bill, Sen. Jean Shaheen said.
“We are very close to reaching an agreement <…> on a bill that will consider the possibility of preventive sanctions – such that we can introduce in response to what we have already seen from Russia in terms of its aggressive behavior, ”said the senator, she was quoted by Korrespondent.net.
The document, which will be adopted with bipartisan support, will provide for diverse assistance to Ukraine, Republican Rob Portman, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, added. According to him, the United States will also share with Ukraine best practices that have been worked on in the United States to protect infrastructure from cyber attacks.
Portman stressed that “we should not wait until Russia attacks, and only then impose sanctions.” It is necessary “to keep Russia from this terrible mistake, the consequences of which would be devastating,” the senator added.
