Reed Boucher, a former NHL player who recently played in the Continental Hockey League, was sentenced to four years of hard labor and one year of probation at a closed hearing in Washtenaw County court, writes the Detroit Free Press. He was accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Boucher committed the crime in 2011 at the age of 17. According to investigators, when the athlete temporarily lived in a foster family and trained in the US junior team, he twice forced the 12-year-old daughter of the owners to perform oral sex. The victim said that Boucher found a video of her dancing and invited her to the basement, where his bedroom was. There he, according to her, forced the girl to have oral sex with him and threatened that he would tell everyone about it.
Since the hockey player pleaded guilty, the case was reclassified from a serious crime to a less serious one. What’s more, if Boucher no longer breaks the law, he could avoid being listed as a sex offender.
In the Continental Hockey League, according to the Championship portal, they noted that they are waiting for official documents from the United States regarding the verdict and condemn all forms of violence and abuse.
