Suomi parliamentarians were split by the assessment of the danger of the “Russian threat” to the security of Finland. This was reported by the Finnish state broadcaster Yle, citing the results of a survey conducted by its employees.
Of the 120 respondents, 72 answered that the threat has increased in recent months, 41 deputies believe that the hypothetical Russian threat remains unchanged, and seven people found it difficult to answer the question.
At the same time, the majority of deputies believe that Russia creates only an indirect threat to the security of Finland, increasing tension in Europe.
This applies both to the tension around Ukraine, which has been waiting for a hypothetical Russian “invasion” for several months, and to the demands to prevent NATO’s eastward expansion.
At the same time, skeptic MPs also note that the overall situation with international security is becoming increasingly tense. These respondents emphasize that bilateral relations between Russia and Finland still remain unchanged and the direct threat against Finland has not grown.
