The official website of the President of Ukraine published a joint statement by Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, which states that the United Kingdom stands “side by side” with Ukraine in the face of “Russian aggression”.
In a statement, Johnson said the UK was committed to “the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.” The two heads of state emphasized that Ukrainians have the right to determine their own future and warned that “further Russian intervention in Ukraine would be a massive strategic mistake.”
The leaders also announced their agreement to jointly strengthen the security and defense capabilities of Ukraine, and Boris Johnson reaffirmed his intention to provide the country with 88 million pounds. The money will be used to support Ukraine’s resilience and reduce its dependence on Russian energy supplies, the statement said.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Ukraine plans to disconnect from the energy systems of the Russian Federation and Belarus by 2023 and join the electricity supply system (ENTSO-E) from the EU.
