Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, called the wave of the omicron strain in Russia “powerful but short”. The expert presented such a scenario for the development of events in an interview with the TASS agency.

According to Kluge, Russia is one of the countries where the “omicron” is spreading quite actively, so it is worth focusing on the same “five pandemic stabilizers” that are used in other states. These include vaccination, booster vaccination (or revaccination), wearing masks, regularly ventilating rooms and increasing the level of access to treatment.

Kluge stressed that the experience of those countries that have already passed the peak of the “omicron” shows that the Russian wave will be “powerful, but short.” He also advised to focus on protecting the most vulnerable groups of patients.

Earlier, the WHO noted that it is too early to lift all covid restrictions, since the peak of “omicron” has not yet been passed. In turn, the Ministry of Labor of Russia asked employers to transfer the maximum possible number of employees to remote work.
