The Georgian Interior Ministry confirmed the deportation of Russian opposition politician Dmitry Gudkov, who was heading to Tbilisi to meet with activists. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

“Dmitry Gudkov was denied entry to the territory of Georgia in accordance with subparagraph “i” of Article 11 of the Georgian law “On the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced. Gudkov himself, who published a video of the incident at the airport, is sure that he was “turned” back for political reasons.

“I have always dreamed of visiting Tbilisi, where I have many friends,” Dmitry Gudkov is quoted by the Georgia Online portal. — I apologize to my colleagues, politicians, journalists and diplomats for the unexpected disruption of our meetings. I will try to get an official answer about the reasons for my deportation. Unfortunately, the border service officers (who not only recognized me, but also demonstrated knowledge of my biography) did not tell me these reasons, referring to the decision of the authorities.”

Former State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov is a suspect in the case of non-payment under a lease agreement. In January 2022, he was banned from leaving Russia, although he left Russia in 2021.
