A person with symptoms of infection with the Omicron coronavirus strain can carry the virus even if the PCR test is negative, said infectious disease doctor Yevgeny Timakov.

According to the expert, if the patient has symptoms of coronavirus, then he can transmit the virus to others. A negative test result in this case may be due to an insufficient amount of material taken during the test, or the fact that the virus has time to leave the nasopharynx and move on. Timakov stressed that “omicron” can “very quickly leave the nasopharynx and not be detected by tests.”

In this regard, the doctor advised to limit contact with other people when symptoms of infection appear, even if the PCR test shows a negative result, RIA Novosti reports. Timakov added that in the case of an omicron infection, the most active isolation of the virus occurs during the incubation period, which lasts two to three days, and in a week it becomes clear whether a person has a coronavirus or not.
