Huaquillas, THE GOLD

In less than an hour, two violent deaths were reported in the Huaquillas canton, a city located on the border of Ecuador and Peru.

The two victims were killed by gunshots between 1:05 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. on Monday, January 31.

The first case was recorded in the Los Girasoles citadel of that city. There, the Colombian Juan Camilo Hoyos Puerta, 28, was murdered.

According to witnesses, the alleged attackers were traveling on a motorcycle and one of them fired several shots to end the life of the foreigner.

Josselyn Palacios, the citizen’s partner, explained to the police officers that her partner received death threats a few days ago, but did not offer more details.

For his part, Colonel Diego Espinoza, head of the National Police in Huaquillas, mentioned that Hoyos’s murder was presumably related to the collection at the clandestine steps on the border line between the two countries.

The other victim was located on the shore of the international canal, in the Milton Reyes citadel. Until this afternoon the body had not yet been identified and according to the residents, several gunshots were heard and when they went to the sector they only found the lifeless body.

The agents of the Directorate of Violent Deaths (Dinased) carried out the investigative procedures and, together with the Prosecutor’s Office, carried out the removal of the two bodies, which were transferred to the Machala Forensic Center to carry out the legal autopsy of both bodies.

With both cases, the province of El Oro adds 18 deaths so far in 2022. (I)
