Excess qualifications for Russians is the same problem as lack of experience. As the survey of the SuperJob service showed, 22% of companies, that is, almost every fifth employer, refuses all overqualified candidates.
“For 11 years, the situation has not changed, despite the fact that in a large number of industries there is a shortage of labor,” the press service of the service noted.
Three out of ten Russians with employment experience also said they were turned down by employers because they had “outgrown” the position they were applying for.
Among respondents over 45, 36% experienced this. However, this problem concerns not only mature specialists, but also young people. As the results of the survey showed, among Russians under 34 years old, 11% received refusals due to overqualification. “Judging by their stories, yesterday’s university graduates who apply for positions where there is enough “crust” about secondary vocational education can also be classified as overqualified,” analysts say.
The number of professionals who are not hired because they are “too good” rises with increasing income levels. So, among those who earn up to 50 thousand rubles, 15% of respondents faced this, and among people with incomes above 80 thousand rubles – 38%.
