There was one death and two injuries in the Las Mercedes neighborhood, in the city of San Lorenzo, on the northern border of Esmeraldas, in an event recorded on Thursday night.
Residents of the place reported that the violent death of a young man happened in a vacant lot in the sector, after receiving several bullet wounds, around 9:00 p.m. last night.
Two murders were recorded in Esmeraldas, while the Minister of Defense visited a military battalion in this province

Thursday’s was the fourth violent death recorded in San Lorenzo so far in January 2022.
Suspected member of criminal group arrested
An alleged member of the organized criminal group Coordinating Command of the West of Colombia, was arrested in the Yalaré sector, Eloy Alfaro canton, north of the province of Esmeraldas.
The arrest occurred in a house. Personnel from the Intelligence Unit, the San Lorenzo Judicial Police, the Special Mobilized Anti-Narcotics Group (GEMA) and the Armed Forces participated in the operation, at noon on Thursday this week.
The detainee is Yefran K. Gálias Ronald and the motivation would be for carrying a firearm (1 9mm pistol, 15 9mm ammunition, 1 9mm feeder, and 4 mobile phones).
In addition, three Colombian citizens aged 17, 22 and 24 respectively were apprehended.
On Wednesday of this week, the citizen of Colombian nationality Yefran G., was also arrested for possession of weapons, explosives and ammunition, in San Lorenzo, northern border of Esmeraldas, explained Santiago Martínez, police chief of the district of this canton.
Soldiers find rest base for illegal groups on the northern border of Esmeraldas
A week ago, soldiers from the Bimot Infantry Battalion -13, found supplies for military use, in a rest base used by illegal armed groups (GIA), in a town of Mataje, on the northern border of Esmeraldas.
Defense Minister Luis Hernández Peñaherrera, during his recent visit to Esmeraldas, emphasized the military control of the binational border cordon, which is used for activities outside the law. (I)
