Sexologist explained why chemical castration is meaningless in the fight against pedophiles

The problem of pedophiles lies exclusively in the field of psychiatry, so chemical castration in these cases is useless. As psychologist and sexologist Maria Erlich, who works with victims of rape, explained, pedophilia is, in fact, a disorder of sexual desire. “In this regard, chemical castration will not lead to anything,” Gazeta.ru quotes the specialist.

Erlich also noted that such a “treatment” is not suitable for all pedophiles, because the drug is hormonal. It aims to lower testosterone levels, and this is purely a bodily action, not a mental one. In addition, Erlich warned, the effect of chemocastration drugs can be bypassed, as, for example, “craftsmen” bypass the coding for alcoholism.

“They are coded, but they know the tricks that will allow them to start again … It’s the same story here,” she stated.

Recall that in the spring of last year it became known that the State Duma is finalizing the nuances of the law on the chemical castration of pedophiles. Then it was said that the “ideological decision” on the bill had already been made – against the backdrop of the release of 70-year-old Viktor Mokhov – the “Skopin maniac”. In 2000, Mokhov met 14-year-old Ekaterina Martynova and 17-year-old Elena Samokhina on the street and offered the girls a ride home. They agreed, but instead he drove them out of town. The next 1296 days the schoolgirls spent as sex slaves in the bunker that Mokhov dug in advance on his plot under the garage. For disobedience, the pedophile deprived the captives of food, water and light, sprayed tear gas in the basement. One of the schoolgirls gave birth twice from Mokhov. On March 3, 2021, he was released after serving 17 years.
