The government commission to determine the list of socially significant resources included the State Services portal and the VKontakte social network. Alexander Khinshtein, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, announced this on his Telegram channel.

By law, access to such sites must be provided by operators free of charge.

“Why public services is understandable. As for VK, it is not only one of the largest domestic social networks, but also a “one stop shop” for users. More than 40,000 public pages of authorities and state institutions have already been posted here,” the deputy explained.

At the next meeting of the commission, the possibility of including the Odnoklassniki social network in the list will be discussed, and a list of government websites will be determined, access to which will be free for Russians.

Earlier, the TelecomDaily agency, which conducted a survey of managers of large companies, warned of a rise in the cost of access to home Internet.

Experts explained the rise in prices by inflation, an increase in equipment prices, the need to comply with the requirements for storing subscribers’ Internet traffic, and also provide users with free access to socially significant resources.
