The Bolivarian University of Ecuador (UBE), which will open in Durán, is committed to solar energy

The UBE will be the first university to operate in the Duran canton.

The Bolivarian University of Ecuador (UBE), sister entity of the Bolivarian Technological Institute (ITB), announces the opening of its academic activities for the first quarter of next year if conditions and health authorities allow it.

In this way, the Duran canton will have its first higher education center, which expects to serve some 10,000 resident students from the Guayas, Los Ríos, El Oro and Bolívar provinces.

The UBE will open its doors showing a commitment to the environment, according to a statement, since its campus will have solar energy panels that will partially supply the electricity requirement in its facilities.

During the presentation of this initiative, Roberto Tolozano Benítez, Ph. D., rector of the UBE and ITB, noted: “We have proposed to contribute significantly to the environment by installing 360 solar panels on its campus, which will generate 190,800 peak kilowatts, this implies that it will stop emitting 195 tons of CO2 per year.”

He added that this initiative aims to optimize electricity consumption. “The economic savings in billing is a great vector to bet on solar energy. It is to transform the constant expense of every month into an asset, with a circular character and compatible with the environment, generating a positive flow from the first day of operation, ”he said, according to the bulletin.

With this photovoltaic energy project, he added, the UBE joins the fight against damage to the environment, “solar energy is welcome.” (I)
