It is desirable to vaccinate 10 million Russian teenagers from 12 to 17 years old against coronavirus within six months, Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, said on the air of the Rossiya 24 channel.

According to him, it is necessary to protect schoolchildren from possible severe cases. He emphasized that it is absolutely necessary to vaccinate children.

Anatoly Altstein, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, employee of the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, said earlier that parents do not need to be asked if their children can be vaccinated against coronavirus.

In Russia, during the spread of the omicron coronavirus strain, the proportion of children among the sick increased from 10 to 15%, said Alexander Gorelov, deputy director of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology (TsNIIE) of Rospotrebnadzor.

At the same time, only 33% of parents in Russia are ready to vaccinate their children. At the same time, the number of parents who are categorically not ready to vaccinate their children is 32%. Vaccination of children against coronavirus was supported by 15% of vaccinated and 2% of unvaccinated parents, and 62% of unvaccinated mothers strongly opposed vaccination.

In Russia, the Sputnik M vaccine is registered, intended for children and adolescents aged 12-17. Vaccination of minors has already begun in a number of subjects of the Russian Federation, including the Moscow and Leningrad regions, Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region.
