In London, they said that Russia would “revenge” Western countries for sanctions, leaving them without gas

Sanctions against Russia over Ukraine will lead to a reduction in Russian gas supplies to Europe. Officials in the UK government are afraid of this, reports The Times, citing sources.

The British Cabinet believes that if sanctions are introduced, Russia will use its natural resources as a “weapon” and limit supplies. At the same time, there is no direct risk of a shortage of gas for Britain, since the country practically does not import Russian gas, but the conflict will lead to fuel prices rising to new record levels. This will become a serious problem if Russia further restricts supplies, the media said.

The publication emphasizes that in 2020 the UK received less than 3% of gas from Russia, while the share of supplies to Germany is about 40%, and states such as Sweden and Finland “are almost completely dependent on it.” About half of the gas entering the British market is produced offshore the North Sea, about a third is exported from Norway, and the rest is supplied by liquefied natural gas (LNG), media writes.

It should be noted that in Europe they started talking about imposing sanctions against Russia because of fears that the country could “invade” Ukraine.
