In winter, none of the motorists is immune from falling into a snowdrift, and for such cases it is necessary to have a minimum set of tools in the trunk, including a shovel and a cable, as well as correctly exit the snow trap in the yard and outside the city. Igor Boyarsky, director of service for one of the divisions of the Avilon group, told PRIME about this.
According to him, preparing the car for the trip is the most basic thing to start with. First of all, you need to take care of choosing the right and high-quality tires – they must necessarily correspond to the season. If the driver goes out of town on a snowy road, then the tires should be studded and in good condition. “Also in winter, it is especially important to always have a minimum set of tools with you: a shovel, a jack, a cable, traction control chains,” the auto expert said.
If we talk about the situation when the car is stuck in the yard after a snowfall, then everything is simple here: you can clear the excess snow with a shovel and push the car out with the help of other people. The main thing is not to slip, so as not to bury the car even more.
“If your car is “sat down” on the bottom, then you can use a jack and lift it up. But in the snow it will be very difficult to do this, since the jack will also get stuck in it. Therefore, if possible, then first you need to put some kind of board under the jack itself, raise the wheel, and then put something under the wheel itself, ”Boyarsky explained.
If the car got into a snow trap somewhere outside the city, and the owner has nothing with him, then, according to the expert, it is necessary to put something under the wheel to increase the coverage area and allow the car to drive out. The simplest thing is to use improvised means for this, for example, branches, boards, and so on.
“Under no circumstances should you drive a car. The more you skid, the more you bury your car, and it will be more difficult to get out, ”the expert warned.
In any case, he stressed, on a trip it is always important to first assess the situation – in particular, what kind of snow is in front of you (deep, loose, dense, and so on), and decide whether it is safe to continue moving in that direction.
Boyarsky also noted that if the car is equipped with special assistant systems for the driver in such situations, then they certainly need to be turned on.
At the same time, the expert drew attention to anti-slip chains. He advised to put them on in advance, because if the car gets stuck in the snow, it will not be easy to put on the chains. “After all, the chain is essentially the same track, additionally equipped with elements for traction to push the car forward,” the specialist summed up.
