The general secretary of ELA has highlighted the sense of inaction on the part of the Basque Government: “There is no type of measure on the table. The political debate revolves around other issues such as the TAV, while health falls. The deterioration of Osakidetza Is very evident”.
The general secretary of ELA, False Lakuntza, was interviewed this Monday on Radio Euskadi’s ‘Boulevard’ program, where he harshly criticized “the moments of desperation” that are being experienced in Osakidetza since the start of the pandemic. He has also talked about how the situation is in Education and about the labour reform.
With all this, Lakuntza has made it clear that the conditions for a general strike, and has underlined that they have shared this idea with the LAB union. However, he does not understand LAB’s opposition to calling a strike. “The labor reform is very serious, because we are facing a lie that has been repeated repeatedly. The conditions were met to activate that tool” –a general strike– he said.
Regarding the demonstrations of the weekend, Lakuntza has been happy. “They have been very positive, both in the number of participants and in the option they have given to visualize the point of despair that the workers of Osakidetza have. The investment made in Osakidetza today is less than it was 10 years ago”, he pointed out. With this he highlighted the feeling of inaction by the Basque Government: “There is no type of measure on the table. That is why we have criticized the budgets so much. The political debate revolves around other issues such as the TAV. Millions of euros are allocated to works of this type, while health falls. The deterioration of Osakidetza Is very evident”.
In this sense, he has recalled the 4,000 layoffs that there were in Osakidetza, and has branded the Proposed OPE for 3,000 workers. “We are not updated on anything that has to do with planning,” he detailed.
Asked for a hypothetical strike in Osakidetza, the general secretary of ELA has not ruled out anything: “The situation is extremely serious and requires an effort for the Basque Government to react, and thus be able to increase resources. The workers did not take to the streets on a whim, but because the desperation is very great”.
Lakuntza believes, on the other hand, that in Education, the situation is not as extreme as in Health. Lastly, he shared the analysis of the basque pensioners, “since Lakua has not kept his word in that area either.” “The mobilization It is the only thing that leaves us a path to hope”, he concluded.
