COE of Cuenca analyzed the change to a yellow traffic light as announced by the national entity; capacity is increased to 50% in spaces such as restaurants

The rate of infections and positive cases has not radically decreased in Cuenca, but it is manageable, according to the Mayor. They were at a red health light.

CUENCA

Once the city of Cuenca entered the yellow color of the health traffic light by order of the National Committee for Emergent Operations (national COE), the local authorities met on the morning of this Sunday 23 to define new policies for different recreational, religious and economic. The main thing is a greater opening for the capacity.

Before making the decision, the cantonal COE reviewed some statistics related to COVID-19 infections in Cuenca. There they learned that although the rate of infections and positive cases has not radically decreased, the situation is manageable, especially when the capacity of public and private hospitals for this pathology is not yet at the limit.

Mayor Pedro Palacios said that between December 26, 2021 and January 22, 2022, the positive cases increased from 136 to 714. Although it is a high rate, it remained stable.

As for the occupation of beds in hospitals and clinics, the percentage is 77%, but not necessarily because there are fewer infections, but because spaces were increased.

In addition, after the application of 2,620 swab tests carried out by them, the positivity level dropped from 50.1 to 41%.

One aspect that remains, as explained by the director of the Cantonal Health Council, Julio Molina, is that today there are 6 hospitalized children. Of these, 4 in the public Neonatology Intensive Care Units (ICU) and two in Paediatrics.

To the decision adopted on January 11 last where an entry of 30% occupancy was allowed for closed places such as restaurants or bars, from now on it was raised to 50%, as provided by national regulations.

On Saturday 22, the national COE indicated that the new traffic lights in the cantons of Ecuador will be in force from this Monday, January 24 to 30.

What is still prohibited in Cuenca is the granting of permits to hold massive events, it was said.

These new rules will be maintained, according to Mayor Palacios, for a week as long as the circumstances determine if they can be relaxed or increased.

Finally, Julio Molina asked the authorities of the National Government to explain the parameters based on those who decide to change a canton from a yellow to a red traffic light. It has not reached them as a Municipality and that is why they do not know how objective they are. (I)
