Ecuador continued this week with the increase in hospitalizations COVID-19, a situation that has been observed in the first 21 days of this year, according to figures from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), based on patient data from the Comprehensive Public Health Network (RPIS) and the Complementary Private Network (RPC).
The previous highest record era of May 26, 2021, 242 days ago, with a total of 1,572 hospitalized patients (999 stable and 573 with reserved prognosis).
The last friday January 21st that record reached 1,558 patients (77 of them in intermediate care and another 515 in intensive care units).

According to the MSP report of April 21, 2021, the record of occupied beds for ICU was 650, the same that has been maintained in the 740 days that the pandemic has been in the country, although the current figure of 515 is the highest since last August 11, when 525 patients in intensive care for COVID-19 were registered.
Since January 1 of this year, the hospitalization requirement for patients with COVID-19 has been increasing and the most important increase it was given between Sunday 16 and Monday 17 with a rise of 16.85% (167 patients hospitalized in just 24 hours).
The second largest increase of total hospitalizations in this month occurred between Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20, with an increase of 158 patients (11.81%); and the third, between Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19, with 140 (11.69%).
In addition, between January 14 and 21 alone, a total of 581 people required hospitalization for COVID-19, which is equivalent to 167.74% more compared to the first seven days of 2022. (I)
