Hundreds of British troops could be sent to NATO countries neighboring Ukraine as a “deterrent” for Russia, writes The Times, citing sources in the country’s Ministry of Defense.
According to sources, the department is discussing the possibility of strengthening the military contingent in Eastern Europe by “hundreds” of military personnel. NATO members have previously discussed at a high level whether to strengthen their presence in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
Britain is currently leading a 1,200-strong battle group in Estonia. There are 830 British troops, tanks, armored fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery, an engineering group, air defense and intelligence equipment. In addition, 140 British troops are stationed in Poland as part of NATO’s mission to strengthen its forward presence.
Recall, earlier it became known that the heavy military transport aircraft C-17A Globemaster III of the British Royal Air Force since the beginning of the week have performed eight flights to Ukraine. Presumably, they delivered anti-tank weapons.
