Consul General of Germany in Siberia compared the law on foreign agents with “scissors” that are installed in the head of journalists

“The law on foreign agents is a big blow to the future of the Russian Federation.” This is the opinion of the Consul General of Germany in Siberia and the Far East, Bernd Fincke, whose statements are quoted by the website “NGS. News”.

According to the Consul General, the consequences of the application of this law are negative both for the media recognized by foreign agents and for journalists who get used to self-censorship. He likens the process of self-censorship to scissors placed in the head of journalists, who have to decide each time whether they should write about the next risky topic.

“In order for a society to develop, you need a collection of opinions, competition, pluralism,” Fincke emphasizes. “This kind of legislation is very restrictive of people, and we look at it with great concern.”

The Consul General explains that we are talking about the international obligations that Russia has assumed regarding democratization and legal security. “We see that our traditional partners will think twice about whether to cooperate with partners from Germany and vice versa,” he adds.
