President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the Ukrainians because of the threat of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, urging them not to panic and not to “buy buckwheat and matches.” He posted his video message on Facebook.
According to him, now all the news and information space is filled with similar messages about the war with Russia, that the invasion could begin “right tomorrow.”
“What exactly is the news? Hasn’t this been reality for eight years now? Didn’t the invasion start in 2014?” Zelensky asks questions. He added that such risks have not become greater.
He urged compatriots not to panic because of the situation around the borders of Ukraine. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine does not want war, but must always be ready for it. According to him, the only reason to panic is “if after eight years of war we still succumb to panic.”
“All our citizens, especially the elderly, need to understand this, they need to exhale, calm down, not run over buckwheat and matches. All media should be mass media, not mass hysteria,” Zelensky added.
Recall that earlier Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kiev on an official visit. During a meeting with officials from the US embassy in Kiev, the State Department said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could begin soon.
According to Interfax, Blinken assured that the US authorities would continue to support Ukraine and provide an additional $300 million in 2022.
The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and enlisted her support. According to him, Canada’s foreign minister supported the country’s territorial integrity.
