US President Joe Biden urged the Russian authorities not to forget about the “closeness of a full-scale nuclear war” in the event of an aggravation of relations with the West.

Speaking at a press conference on the first anniversary of his presidency, Biden stressed that “extreme caution in actions” is necessary due to the fact that at the moment it is not clear what Russia can or cannot do, “you need to be extremely careful” in further actions. He also noted that the situation around Ukraine could easily get out of control. Moreover, according to him, this can happen by accident and contrary to the plans of the parties.

“I hope Vladimir Putin understands that he… is not in the best position to dominate the world,” Biden added.

At the same time, he said that the United States does not intend to reduce its military presence in Europe. According to Biden, Washington, on the contrary, will increase the number of troops in the eastern part of the Old World in the event of further escalation around Ukraine. Nevertheless, he admitted the likelihood that the US authorities would consider the demand of the Russian Federation for the non-deployment of strategic weapons in Ukraine and “work out something” on this issue.

At the moment, according to the American leader, the United States has sent Ukraine the latest defense equipment worth more than $600 million.

Earlier, Biden said about the “catastrophic consequences” for the Russian economy in the event of an “invasion” of Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that “serious imposition of sanctions on transactions in dollars or other things” would have negative consequences for the United States and for the whole world, but for Russia it would be “destructive.”
