The Ministry of Transportation authorized the collection of $0.50 at the toll of the Alóag – Santo Domingo road, at the height of Tandapi

The authorization of the cabins and the payment of the fee will begin after the road is fixed. There are no deadlines yet

The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) issued, this Wednesday, January 19, 2022, a letter of Authorization to the Prefecture of Pichincha to collect $0.50 in the toll of the Alóag – Santo Domingo road, located at kilometer 56, in the Tandapi sector.

However, this charge will proceed once the company contracted by the Prefecture fixes the road and complete the extension of six kilometers that were left unfinished.

This was confirmed by the Prefect of Pichincha, Paola Pabon who emphasized that they will not make any collection in this toll until the road is in optimal condition. “It was our insistence, to implement once the works of completion of the Tandapi – Unión del Toachi section, I am referring to the asphalt folder in the sections that are already extended”, he pointed out.

Pabón also noted that from the coffers of the Prefecture they will inject $1,000,000 for major and minor patching, signaling and maintenance of slopes.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Transport Services and Public Works, Fernando Arteaga, pointed out that “there is a conditional approval to the execution of certain works.

The document sent by the MTOP states that apart from the completion of the Tandapi – Unión del Toachi section, it is also recommended that a tripartite agreement is modified established between this portfolio of State with the prefectures of Pichincha and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas to establish “the obligations and responsibilities that allow to comply with the conclusion of the works and maintenance in the corridor delegated to Gad de Pichincha”.

In this Pichincha proposal it is indicated that the collection of this toll will be until 2037, that is, for 15 years, according to the financial run they foresee until they finish paying the contract to the construction company, Hidalgo and Hidalgo.

The toll is currently abandoned. According to information provided by the company Hidalgo e Hidalgo to this newspaper, the construction of the station was arranged in September 2016 and the work was completed in February 2017. However, the Provisional delivery was April 22, 2019.

On the other hand, the carriers oppose the collection of another toll, on the afternoon of Tuesday 18 and the morning of this Wednesday, January 19, they road closures as a claim sample to the state of the road. In addition, they have indicated that, if the toll located in Tandapi is applied, they will continue raising their protest. (I)
