This is how the capacity remains in Quito after the red alert was declared due to an increase in cases of COVID-19

Public transport must circulate with 50% capacity during peak hours.

The Municipality of Quito informed, through a bulletin, that while the validity of the epidemiological red alert in the capital, capacity is reduced. This, in order to avoid a increase in infections which have already shown a rise similar to the peaks of the pandemic recorded in 2020 and 2021.

The alert measures, as decided by the Metropolitan Emergency Operations Committee (COE) of Quito, will be from January 18 to 25, 2022. On that date they will again analyze the health situation in the capital and decide whether to change or maintain restrictions.

In accordance with Resolution 040, in force in the capital, the following provisions apply:

  • Nightclubs, tolerance centers, nightlife centers, training centers and gyms that carry out contact activities are suspended.
  • The shopping malls, including food courts, supermarkets and markets, bank and corporate agencies, will have a capacity of 50%
  • Restaurants inside 50% capacity.
  • Restaurants abroad 60% capacity.
  • Cinemas and theaters a capacity of 30%.
  • gyms with the exception of those who carry out training for sports or contact activities 50%
  • Auditoriums, convention centers or tourist accommodation for corporate or academic events, 50% inside and 75% outside.
  • Auditoriums, convention centers, tourist accommodation for social events, 50% indoors and 60% abroad.
  • The Pico y Placa is maintained.

In addition, the authorities decided keep public transport at peak hours at 50% capacity. That is, from 06:00 to 09:30 and from 16:00 to 21:00. The rest of the time (off-peak hours) the buses will work with 75% capacity. (I)
