US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes that leaving Russia unpunished for its hypothetical aggressive behavior against Kiev is like opening a mythical Pandora’s box, setting a bad example for other autocratic countries. About this he informed in a commentary on the political podcast Pod Save America (“God Bless America”).
Ukraine and its sovereignty are significant not only in themselves, Blinken emphasizes, but also as a symbol of opposition to autocratic countries that are ready to follow the example of the Russian Federation. “This is a means to conflict, chaos and human suffering and to undermine democracy,” the Secretary of State added, emphasizing the inadmissibility of forcibly changing the borders of a neighboring country, as well as trying to decide “with whom this country will enter into blocs instead of the citizens of this country with the help of their elected government.”
Recall that Blinken is currently in Kiev to discuss Ukraine’s security issues there.
