Authorities are investigating the cause of the confrontation.
This Monday afternoon in the center of Esmeraldas there was an armed confrontation during the transfer of a coffin to the local municipal cemetery.
The incident occurred in Juan Montalvo streets between Libertad and Olmedo after 3:00 p.m. between two sides. After the event, the coffin was left in the middle of the street and was later picked up by family and friends.
The situation was taken advantage of by criminals to steal the belongings of the attendees, in addition several taxi drivers were beaten and a vehicle received a projectile impact. The event forced the closure of commercial establishments.
Special units of the National Police shielded the internal and external security of the cemetery, where apparently friends of the deceased wanted to bury him in the “narco wake” style, according to the uniformed VĂctor Heredia, chief of operations.
Four revolver-type weapons with their respective cartridges and a bottle of liquor were found by police officers inside the cemetery.
There was also the registration of several motorcycles and the motivation for this confrontation is being investigated since the previous Saturday, a person was killed during a failed kidnapping by the artisanal fishing port of Esmeraldas. (I)
