Another armed attack in Quevedo causes two deaths and five injuries

Last week a fight between gangs left two dead and three injured outside a nightlife center.

Quevedo, THE RIVERS

Two dead and five injured is the balance of the most recent armed attack that took place around midnight on Sunday outside a house in Quevedo, in Los Ríos.

The two fatalities of this new violent act were identified as Jorge Buenaño Ruiz, 43 years old, and Edgar Cortez Díaz, 27 years old. The injured include three men and two women.

According to witness accounts, the incident occurred when several people were gathered outside a house located in the Gustavo Campi sector of the San Camilo parish. They stated that the attackers were on motorcycles, that they parked in front of everyone and began to fire rifles, and then fled.

More than 80 ballistic signs were seized at the scene. In the same place, the uniformed officers found a lemon-type grenade that did not activate and that was removed by elements of the Special Forces Group 26 Cenepa de Quevedo.

Darwin Guevara, chief in charge of the Quevedo-Mocache Police district, said that at the moment the motives for the attack are unknown and it is being investigated whether some of the victims had received death threats.

“The victims were drinking liquor on public roads, minutes before the attack, the Police told them to go to their homes, but they ignored it, then they alerted us to the fatal armed attack,” said the head of this police district.

In Quevedo there are already 12 violent deaths that have occurred so far this month, according to figures handled by the Police of this jurisdiction.

Unsafety

In order to reduce the number of common crimes and violent acts, high-ranking authorities from the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior visited the province to learn about and analyze the problem of insecurity and organized crime that Los Ríos is experiencing.

The Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, said that in the province of Rio de Janeiro the research and intelligence axes of the National Police have been strengthened.

“Insecurity has its fundamental origin and it is drug trafficking, in all its forms and faces, but each one has a specific form in the different provinces and cities,” said the minister.

The work meeting was held on Sunday at the facilities of the Las Peñas de Babahoyo Police Training School, where police chiefs from the different districts and the governor of Los Ríos, Génesis Blum, participated. (I)
