Forest fire in the Papallacta sector, in the northeast of Quito, consumed about 55 hectares; it is the second in less than 15 days

The Quito Fire Department reported that the fire has been fully controlled.

After 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022, a forest fire at kilometer 10 of the road to Papallacta, in the northeast of Quito. The Quito Fire Department (CBQ) reported on Monday that the fire is under control.

About 55 hectares of land were consumed due to two lines of fire two kilometers long against which firefighters worked.

More than 12 hours of work, 38 troops, 14 units, ground and air monitoring were necessary to quell this sinister. At 11:21 a.m. on Sunday, January 16, the CBQ reported that the fire was controlled.

Since this Monday, research work began to define the causes of the fire and quantify the exact hectares that were consumed, as well as the losses it generated in the flora and fauna of the place.

Two fires in 15 days

The On January 2, a fire was also reported in this area, this time it had happened in the Pifo sector, also on the road to Papallacta.

The work of the CBQ lasted two days They were identified three lines of fire with an extension of 1.2 kilometers.

The authorities asked the citizens report fires in forest areas to the 911 emergency line. They also recalled that the burning of garbage, straw and any other material in the DMQ is prohibited. (I)
