546 criminal cases opened in Kazakhstan after riots in early January

As a result of street riots in Kazakhstan, 546 criminal cases were initiated and are being investigated. The figure was named by the head of the criminal prosecution service of the Prosecutor General’s Office Serik Shalabaev.

According to him, according to RIA Novosti, out of these 546 cases are being investigated – including 44 on the facts of terrorism, 34 – on riots, 19 – on murders. 672 suspected of committing crimes were sent to the pre-trial detention center, of which 446 were taken into custody with a court order. After checking the documents and due to the lack of grounds for detention, about a hundred detainees were released.

Recall, earlier it was reported that, according to the latest data, 225 people were killed during the riots in Kazakhstan. Among the dead were 19 security officials. On January 2, protests began in Kazakhstan against a sharp increase in prices for liquefied gas. Later, the rallies turned into pogroms. After the appeal of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the CSTO countries sent peacekeepers to the republic.

It is known that among those killed is Russian citizen Marina Kim, mother of three children. According to close women, she was returning from work and carrying home a cake for the children. She walked 30 meters to the house. According to Marina’s father, she was shot point-blank.
