Telephone scammers have developed a new scheme to deceive Russians, by implementing which they can gain access to accounts on the State Services portal.

According to Kommersant, the scammers introduce themselves over the phone as employees of the Gosuslugi portal, offering to link a QR code to the user’s page. They ask for a code from SMS and thus get access to the personal account of citizens. The attackers can then, for example, use the victim’s data obtained from the portal to apply for loans.

Vladimir Ulyanov, head of the Zecurion analytical center, explained that the scheme is becoming successful due to the real relevance of problems with the correct display or receipt of QR codes on the portal. So, in September, Muscovites had difficulties with the renewal of digital certificates of vaccination after re-vaccination.

Last fall, scammers sent fake letters on behalf of the Gosuslug portal, stealing usernames and passwords. They also registered almost 50 fake websites imitating the Gosuslugi portal.
